My husband and I spent a week in Paris on our way to Africa in 2000. We got to spent New Year's 2001 in Paris. Overall I was not a huge fan of Paris, but I wouldn't mind going back sometime. Some of the things I didn't like were the poor weather (we went in December/January -- bad idea!), the dirtiness of some of the streets and public transit, the amount of attempted thefts on and around public transit, the extremely high cost for everything there, the tiny bathtubs and the language barrier. Things I highly enjoyed were the culture, the sight-seeing, the landmarks, the reliability of the public transit, the wonderful family members we stayed with and the photogenic quality of Paris as a whole. It was an interesting trip, and I'm glad we went. If we go back, it better be in the spring or summer though. ;)

Ah! Paris, the city of lights!
Well, it’s not completely accurate.
The center of Paris, the touristy places are really amazing, fascinating.
But, you have to stay there. Paris’s suburbs looks like to Sao Paulo’s suburbs. If you catch the subway at Paris’s suburbs, and go to Eiffel Tower, seems that you catch the train in some third world city and then you are in Paris.
The truth is Paris is really beautiful, but it has a big problem: their people.
As Renato said, you know some people’s kindness from their behavior at public transportation. No one give up a place for pregnancy women, old ones, disables. They push you and then complain with you, as it was your fault.
Other thing: Tourist people are there bringing money to the city, so why they treat us bad? Looks like they hate us.
I don’t know why but I felt really uncomfortable there. Just a few treated us kindly.
And the way they look to you if you don’t speak French…disdain.
My advice is: Do you want to know Paris? Do it! I want to go back, but don’t try to interact with their people. It’s not worthy.
But, let’s talk about good things: Triumph Arc. Up there seeing is amazing and down there is wonderful as well. I was delighted with its roof.
Leaving the Triumph Arc, we walked down Champs Elysees ‘til the Concorde square. And we stopped for lunch on our way. Yes, we lunched at Champs Elysees, right here! How chic we are!
Eiffel Tower is really impressive. And, baby Felipe marked his territory there. He can say for all his friends that he was naked at Eiffel tower. You can see it here.
I guess Ille de la Cité is my favorite place: Seine, Notre Dame, Police department...everything it’s amazing. And I think Andre liked too. You can see it here.
We didn’t go to Louvre, D'Orsay, places that I want to explore with time.
But, I still don’t believe that RER (train) closes at five o’clock!

First trip to Paris was for spring break while studying abroad in Spain. The trip was packed with museums and monuments...my favorite moment was at night when I was going up an escalator that runs along the exterior of the Modern Arts museum...as I was going up, the lights of all the major monuments in Paris turned on...it was stunning. My second trip was more about wandering the streets and it was much more enjoyable!

Beautiful and fascinating, it blends the history with modern feeling entwined to something you can't really describe with words.
The picture is from St.Chapelle, which I like best in my photo archive.

I have been to Paris so many times I can't count. The whole city is literally a museum. There are many "must-sees" including of course the Louvre. Here's one of my blogs about the city -> http://fredferg.blogs.com/travelog/2005/01/20050104_paris.html

First night we arrived and dropped off our things in the hotel. Our group leader took us into the subway and refused to tell us where we were headed. We got off the subway, climbed up to street level, and rounded the corner of a large building to find the Eiffle Tower lit up in front of us. I will never forget that first Paris experience.
Other things I did in Paris: Louvre Museum, Musee d'Orsay, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame, shopping on Champs-Elysees, a boat tour on the River Seine, and the Palace of Versailles.
I didn't have nearly enough time to do and see everything at any of these places. I only had 3 days but could easily spend 3 weeks. I can't wait to get back again.

There is little that I can say that hasn't been said many times before.
One of the world's truly great cities with food, wine, art, history - you name it.
My wife and I have always found Paris an easy city to get around - whether by Metro or on foot and the Parisians, despite the general reputation of the French for being difficult, are generally very hospitable.
One rule however, try to speak French - no matter how badly. Most of the French will speak English better than you speak French but they do appreciate your attempt to communicate in their language.

Paris is a magical place. I was there for the first time when I was 17, and went again when I was in my mid-20s. I know I'll be back again! I love just walking around and breathing in the ambiance of the city. Notre Dame and Sainte-Chapelle are both worth visiting. My favorite view of the city is from the roof of the department store, La Saumaritain.

I am an American, and I love Paris. Unusual, I realize, but true. The people have always been friendly (No, I do not speak French), and the shopping, food, scenery is simply beyond words. We enjoy going during the two weeks before Christmas, when the city truly becomes the city of lights...

We spent 10 wonderful days in Paris and loved it! We stayed at the Intercontinental Paris Le Grande Hotel which was in the middle of everything. We walked everywhere or took the metro. Some of our favorite memories is just hanging out and also discovering our favorite cheese shop.

The city of Love. Been to Paris several times (more than 15?) over the past 20 years. I always find something new to enjoy. The people really aren't mean as popular media would have you believe.

Multiple trips. Paris would be one of the most perfect cities on earth, except for all the Parisians. A terrific walking city. Stay close to the Notre Dame and explore on foot.

Global city #2.
Length of Stay: 1 week
We stayed in a centrally located hotel, near Notre Dame. Just across the street was the Hotel California, inspiring us to listen to the Eagles as we spent evenings sitting on our balcony, sipping wine.
Paris is so packed with history and must see sights that I was constantly on the Metro getting between monuments. Paris was great, worth a visit. Be sure to see the Eiffle Tower at 8pm when sparkling light show covers the tower for 10 minutes

I have been to Paris several times and its more interesting each time. Like New York or London, once you have seen the main tourist attractions you can see more interesting things and save money. Its pretty expensive.

For an old style bistro I would highly recommend Bofinger. It is located across the square from the Bastille.
